Simon Lightwood MP meets with Wakefield CAB

Wakefield Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) recently welcomed Simon Lightwood, Labour MP for Wakefield, who dropped into the advice centre on Kings Street to meet CEO, Simon Topham, and team.

Wakefield CAB is an independent, local charity which offers free, confidential and impartial advice to those living in Wakefield.

Operating across 22 different venues and covering most areas of the Wakefield Metropolitan District, Wakefield CAB have 25 members of staff, 26 volunteers and 8 trustees, and helped over 10,000 residents with 30,000 issues in 2021/22 alone.

Simon Lightwood MP said: “It was great to visit with Simon and the team over at Wakefield CAB. They really are on the front line, providing people across Wakefield with much needed advice and support.

“12 years of Tory destruction has made the services provided by CAB more valuable than ever. Already pushed to the brink, families are increasingly having to cut back on bare essentials like food and heat. Debt is increasing and fear is growing. CAB, and the CAB volunteers, provide a safety net to those who have been most failed by this Tory government.

“CAB volunteers make such an active difference to people’s lives. Their dedication to providing consistent and reliable care to those going through such difficult times is truly admirable and they deserve all the recognition in the world. Without them, CAB simply could not function.

“Unfortunately, however, since the pandemic, CAB have struggled to recruit and train the volunteers that they rely on.

“If you feel like you might be interested in volunteering for CAB, I wholeheartedly encourage you to take a look at their website. Don’t worry about previous experience, CAB offer full training and support. Further information can be found at the link below - http://wakefielddistrictcab.co.uk/volunteering/
